Copup
Role taking:
Resource investigator
Part-time pets, full-time love.
Co-Pup aims to allow people who are unable to own a dog on their own, to share one. It will contribute to a 15-minute neighbourhood by creating new social links within the developing community and providing all the services required to care for a dog in one place.

People want a dog because...
wellbeing
something to care for
social interactions
cognition
reduce stress
fitness
unconditional love
someone to talk to
company
exercise
health
keep active
my children
However, current situation is ...
The Shepshed region in Leicestershire is the least healthy in Charnwood with many new residents moved in these years.
We can give many health benefits from owning a dog to improve a lot of residents.
Kennels and other pet-sitting services are expensive, upsetting, or harmful for dogs and provide little flexibility.
There’s an opportunity to make being away from their dogs a stress-free experience.
Covid-19 made 1/5 of people adopt a pet. Now lockdown lifted, they don't have time. Many dogs end up in shelters.
We will help them create long-lasting dog ownership.

What had been done for the concept generation

Concept statement
Our audience is
anyone who wants to own a dog
but is unable to for reasons, such as work commitments, mobility issues or lack of finances.
We aim to
-
help them to team up and own a dog together, to access the many benefits of dog ownership;
-
contribute to a 15-min neighbourhood by creating new social links within the community as well as providing all the services required to care for a dog in one place.
What had been done to find stakeholders
New Ecosystem
This ecosystem brings together all the essential dog-related services such as vets, training, pet supplies and food.
Users can access these services through our digital platform.
This will enable hassle-free care of the dog and provide continuity across all the Dog sharers.

What had been done for the business model
Copup will run in monthly subscription mode on the digital platform
National stakeholders will enable CoPup to provide their services to customers at a reduced rate.
Local Stakeholders will be part of CoPup. They will pay a cut of the profits from customers back to us.

Advocates will be selected from previous users. They will be paid to organize pet activities.
What had been done for developing
“I thought of giving up Daisy multiple times as I did not have the freedom to go out anytime whilst taking care of her”
-Potential sharer
“When separation anxiety occurs, dogs will toilet in the house, be unhappy and very vocal. When people get home, they are shattered and don't want to go on a massive hike.”
-Woodside RSPCA
Our potential sharers are struggling to own time for themself from taking care of their dogs. Co-Pup will enable them to have this flexibility with planned schedules.
Also, RSPCA proves that people lack time to care for their dog's needs. Our time-saving digital platform meets their needs to access all these essential dog services easily.
“Our service helps people who are unable to own a dog on their own, to share a dog.”
Storyboard

When Tom's turn comes, he picks up the dog, so David is more relaxed.
David sees the poster of Copup at the entrance of the supermarket.
David takes care of the dog when he is free.
He and Tom, who meet at the seminar, reached a pairing intention.
They select a dog together from the dog shop/ dog shelter.
He meets some new friends when walking with the dog.
He attends the seminar hosted by the advocate to learn more.
They create and sign the agreement under the auspices of the advocate.
Our three key ingredients are :
Caring
Sharing
Matching

Value
01
Sharing the costs and responsibilities of dog ownership opens it up to everyone.
Sharing of responsibility
02
CoPup will also create a system of hassle-free ownership.
Hassle free ownership
03
Lastly, CoPup will increase social links between sharers.
Community links
cheaper
The average first-year dog ownership costs around £2400. But with CoPup, sharers only need to spend 50% to gain the joy of raising a dog.
balanced life
An agreement will define their responsibility and reduce the chance of conflict. Intelligent scheduling will organise the sharing pattern relieving this stress from the sharers.
comprehensive
service
Many different things are needed to effectively care for a dog. This includes insurance, grooming, training, food, and other supplies. Popup allows sharers to pay in one monthly payment.
15-min
neighbourough
The services provided by Copup will all be vetted. This will give sharers confidence when purchasing as they will receive high-quality things sourced from within the 15-min neighbourhood.
social
interaction
Research found people have met an average of four new people through their pet. These community links will be across different generations facilitating knowledge sharing and integration.

Boost dog culture
CoPup will create more recreational areas in the neighbourhood that are specifically dog-friendly. We would like to introduce community hubs located near these areas for users and dogs to socialize.

Corporate with national dog show
To spread the word about CoPup to new communities across the UK we would love to partner with a national dog show and sponsor a “best-shared dog” category that sharers and their dogs can enter.

Sustainable dog products
We also plan to create sustainable dog products tailored to shared ownership. For example, dog food bowls that say, ‘two owners, one bowl’. These would be available to purchase on the digital platform.
Scaling up

Future State
We plan to rebrand ourselves as CoPets and make our service inclusive of pets other than dogs whilst providing the same values to the owners.
We would also franchise our business model in multiple countries and enable all pet lovers to have part-time pets, and full-time love.
